Start & End of Day¶
Start of Day (SOD) opens the shop for business. End of Day (EOD) closes it out.
At the start of the day you open the day's books and the cash drawer. At the end you balance the drawer, prepare the bank deposit, and close the day's books so nothing else posts to it.
In this section¶
- Start of Day — opening the day and the drawer.
- End of Day — balancing, deposit, and closing the day.
Two things to keep separate¶
| Thing | What it covers |
|---|---|
| The day's books (Accounting Period) | The store's totals for the day — deposit, balancing. One per business date per store. |
| The drawer (Register Status) | Whether the till is open or closed, and what's in it. One per drawer. |
The day's books are about the whole store. The drawer is about one till. They live in different places in OverDrive — and the totals at EOD only line up if you keep them separate.
