Express Lane Workflow¶
The Express Lane is a 20-minute service bay built around oil changes, state inspections, and quick-turn maintenance. The advisor running the lane (sometimes called ELSA, QLSA, or just "the Window") owns the guest from arrival to handoff — greeting, ticket creation, the DVI conversation, and payment.
This section walks the whole flow end-to-end in OverDrive.
Where to start
- New to Express Lane? Read the 11-step workflow front-to-back.
- On the line and need to decide if something stays in Express or gets handed off? Open the Express vs Service Forward reference.
The 4 P's¶
Every recommendation you make to the guest falls into one of four buckets. Lead with the first, work down the list:
| Tier | Color | What it is | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Positive findings | Green | Things in good shape — clean filters, healthy tires, items not needing service. Always lead here. Builds trust. |
| 2 | Protection & Safety | Red | Safety items, critical and immediate. Brakes, bald tires, dead batteries, safety system codes. |
| 3 | Prevention | Yellow | Maintenance per OEM intervals — fluid exchanges, transmission service. Catches problems before they become repairs. |
| 4 | Performance & Efficiency | Yellow | Comfort and efficiency — cabin air filter, fuel system cleaning. Optional / value-add. |
Express Lane vs Service Forward — the rule¶
A service stays in the Express Lane only if all three are true:
- The part or product is in stock
- The service doesn't require additional labor, pricing changes, or repair work
- The team can execute it safely in under 20 minutes
If any one fails, it's a Service Forward Referral — write the estimate, transfer the Job to back-of-house, and the customer comes back (or stays for a longer visit).
See the eligibility reference for the per-tier breakdowns.
Who builds the estimate¶
- Express Lane services — Front-of-House Leadership and Advisors prepare the estimate at the Window.
- Service Forward referrals — same: Front-of-House Leadership and Advisors prepare the estimate, then hand off the Job to a Service Advisor for execution.
In either case the declined Jobs stay on the RO — they don't get deleted. That's how marketing follows up with the 30-day discount, and how the next visit picks up where this one left off. See Declining Jobs for the mechanics.
